“With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?”
~ Oscar Wilde
I am absolutely devastated because I just wrote an enormously long and detailed “about” page and accidentally pressed back and my masterpiece was forever lost. So now it seems I have lost the motivation to recreate the page that was, and although I have started anew I’m not sure it will be as great as it could be. I cannot recall what I wrote earlier nor do I wish to, as it was incredibly long winded, upon review. Oh well, a relevant tidbit from George Harrison:
“It’s being here now that’s important. There’s no past and there’s no future. Time is a very misleading thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can’t relive it; and we can hope for the future, but we don’t know if there is one.”
Alas, I find myself describing myself once more and I will try to add to this at a later time.
I am Darcy, a 23 year old girl from Tasmania, living in Melbourne, who spent thirteen years in the lazy beachside “city” (town) that is Perth. I reside in Victoria for no particular reason, I moved here on a whim, enrolled in a Masters’ degree that I should have immediately realised I was doing for the wrong reasons, which I then effectively dropped out of and am now completing a Diploma of Languages in Spanish and a Masters of Education (Primary Teaching). I preceded this with a Bachelor of Journalism & Public Relations (in Perth), which at the time I did not cherish and at this time do not utilise.
Whilst travelling and working in a Summer Camp in Bavaria, Germany last year I came to the realisation that I needed a job where I could travel, therefore work anywhere, but also be creative and enjoy a comfortable schedule with enough time to do the things I like to do (yoga, drink endless cups of tea, go for long walks and so forth). Thus, I landed on teaching and my time in the forest teaching English to youngsters was incredibly fun and led me to commence this Masters. It has been tough yet rewarding and when I complete it I hope to teach overseas which is why I’m also learning Spanish. My dream to live in Peru/ Colombia/ anywhere of that design is always in the back of my mind and I hope to teach in schools and spend my free time looking through my lens in obscure countries for many years to come. A big hobby of mine is photography.
In Perth, I spent my time photographing bands and festivals, such was the inspiration for my Tumblr page which has now morphed into this here blog. Nowadays, I find myself with less time (and therefore content), to photograph and thus my Tumblr was heading more towards the path of nonsensical ramblings; thoughts; dreams and future plans – of which I have an endless supply of. I hope to find and rekindle my passion once more, but for now I do my best at snapping and writing about my travel experiences (often in my beautiful state of Victoria) whenever I get the chance. At this point I have many dreams but few dollars to fund them, but bear with me and if you’ve read this far well it seems like you’re certainly in for the long haul.
Thank you for visiting. All my love. X
My favourite quote of all time, from Lord Byron:
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:
I love not Man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal.”
